Can I use a generic 28mm>30mm adaptor to fit tado to my Drayton TRV3

Options

I've been going around the house fitting Tados to my radiators, which has worked except for my two old Drayton TRV3s, which have a 28mm thread. The Tado guide just says the adaptor is no longer made and so they're not compatible. Has anyone found a way round this? You can buy 28mm>30mm chrome adaptors which are designed to allow people to convert their old TRV heads to new ones. So wouldn't this work to fit with a tado too? Help!

@juliettaray Hello. Amazon sell two brands of 28mm to 30mm adapters with a narrow pins. Myson and Xavax. I've not tried them, but expect that they should work. If not, Amazon have an easy returns policy. Otherwise it's an easy job for a plumber to swap the old valves for new ones.

I'd avoid the third brand Lowenergie, on the basis that it's a wide pin, which is problematic for Tado TRVs on e.g Pegler valves.

  • Thank you! I’ve ordered myson so fingers crossed.
  • I did read somewhere that someone had made a shim out of penny coins so that might be helpful if the pin seems too short.
  • I have 28mm valves and one of the plastic adapters in the TadoX pack worked to mount the valves to the radiator. I used the longer of the available pins.
