Faster Ethernet on Internet Bridge

The Tado Internet Bridge only has a 10Mb Ethernet adaptor. Whilst this is more than enough for the traffic required for Tado to work, background network traffic can end up saturating the link and causing connectivity issues.

I have found that, at times, there is enough broadcast/multicast traffic (for example, ZeroConf announcements) that the Tado Bridge starts dropping packets and loses its connection.

When you have issues with ZeroConf multicast traffic being above 10Mbps you have a problem on the network...

It probably isn't the 10Mbps that is causing the problem, but the processing of the many multicast packets by the tiny processor in the bridge (only to see that it does not need to do anything with them). Adding a 100Mbps mode would not change that.

Of course it would be different when there is also multicast traffic for an IPTV system on your network, which could well be above 10Mbps. But then it is your switch that is to blame, replace it with a better one that supports IGMP snooping. Check your internet/TV provider to see if they support or recommend some types of switch. Connecting the Tado bridge directly to a port on the router instead of on your own switch may also help.

I thought that the tado° installation instructions stated that the tado° Internet Bridge should be connected "directly" into a router port........
