2 TRV in the same room

Hello,

I have a room with 2 radiators therfore I installed 2 TRVs, selected one as the "Measuring Device".

My expectation was that based on the temperature measured by the "Measuring Device" both TRVs will open-close eactly at the same time and be set to the exactly same state, however I can feel that one radiator is warm while the other is cold, they are not working together.

How does this work ? Can both request heating and works individually, the "Measuring Device" is just used to which value to show in the App for that room?

  • Are they both in the same room on the app?
  • Yes, they are in the same room in the app.

What happens if you select the other radiator as the measuring device?

  • I will test this.

What I noticed is the TRV whose radiator is warm calibrates itself under a noticeable short time than all the other 6 TRVs in the house. Maybe the TRV thinks it closed the valve but in reality it did not?
After I restarted it still calibrates itself under a really short time, like 1-2 sec compared to the 4-5 sec of the others.
  • I have played with the setup:
    - Target temperature: 22C
    - The measuring device (and the app) shows: 21.9C and the rad is cold
    - The other radiator is warm and its TRV reports 21.2C
    - When I create separate rooms for each they both control the radiator to reach 22C correctly

The difference between the measured values make sense knowing the architecture of the flat.

It seems like when multiple radiators with TRV are in the same room then they control the belonging radiators independently, the “measuring device” is just for knowing which TRV’s value to display in the app.
    This makes sense to me.

+1: What is interesting is what happens in this case if I add a temperature sensor, would the 2 TRVs (therefore the rads) be synchronized ?

Some of your commentary doesn't seem to make sense to me tbh.......I'm confused as to which tado° room(s) you have the tado° SRT's in and which is chosen as the "Measuring Device"

In your last post you wrote this......

"The measuring device (and the app) shows: 21.9C and the rad is cold - The other radiator is warm and its TRV reports 21.2C"

What I don't understand is how you can have a temperature reported by both the SRT's........or indeed how you can "see" both temperatures.........if both the SRT's are in the one tado° room, then you can only "see" one temperature as reported by the "Measuring Device"

I'm not sure that your comments are reflecting your actual physical and tado° room configuration.

Physically both TRVs are in the same room, Living room, and I configured my home settings in the app accordingly.

I can read both temperatures by selecting which one is the measuring device. When you change the selection the widget in the app main screen will be updated to show the value from the currently selected measuring device.
First I selected TRV A which reported 21.9C in the widget, then I changed the “measuring device” to TRV B and the widget (also the graph) changed to 21.2C.
  • I now understand what you are doing ....but don't understand why.

Whichever SRT is chosen as the "Measuring Device" .......then only this device can "Call for Heat" and open (or close) both the SRT's at the same time.........so if one of the radiators is not heating up it's either a flow problem or a faulty SRT

I assume that you have swapped over these SRT's with other SRT's that you know to be operating correctly........

I also assume that you have been able to get your cold radiator to heat up with a different SRT fitted........

Maybe you can respond to my current queries..........cos I'm getting confused.

“ then only this device can "Call for Heat" and open (or close) both the SRT's at the same time.........” —> yes, I thought it works like this but based on my experiment it does not. They work independently and both can call for heat.

I swapped them and nothing changed, they behaved in the same way.

I configured them to be in 2 separate “virtual”rooms (i.e Living room 1, Living room 2) and they worked perfectly, controlled the radiators correctly to reach the target temperature.

I unmounted the TRVs and both radiator heated up correctly.

The only thing I can come up with is the possibility that your SRT is not correctly fitted to your radiator with the correct adapter.......after that......I'm lost.
  • I contacted Tado's support and was advised to swap the SRTs and observe the behavior.

Before I did that, however, I gave the valve needle on the occasionally cold rad a few good taps, to make sure it doesn't get stuck. Also, don't forget to reset the SRTs before putting them on. (Take out the batteries for 10s, put them back in, wait 1 minute.) I haven't had any problems since.

I has the same problem as you and that is exactly what I did to resolve it.
