@buddhabaker The Tado system is controlled by the cloud and the app is used to manage the settings however you will need to enable the app to run in the background if you are using geofencing as per the instructions below:

The app doesn't need to be active. If you are using geofencing, it is a requirement of the operating system (at least for iOS) to use the background activity service, otherwise the app will be cut off from internet access.

I thought the first sentence in the instructions provided by @what_a_tado clearly answered your question.
"The tado° app needs to work in the background if you are using Geofencing on tado°."
In other words: if you want to use geofencing then the app needs to be active, else you can terminate the app after using it or disable background running.
