one radiator valve makes repeated loud banging noise

Options

Hi, one radiator valve does make a loud banging noise - and it seems to be caused by the small cylinder that is being pushed down by the valve. that cylinder makes a slight noise when it is being pushed right back into the valve.

I wonder if anybody else is having that problem? And how can it be fixed? strangely, the banging noise only appears many hours after i put the tado valve on the radiator. therefore it is hard to predict if the issue is 'fixed' or not.

any ideas? thanks

also, in case i want to replace the valve completely with a new one (i mean the actual valve part, not the tado element) - is that easy enough to do DIY? i hear mixed opinions...

I’m guessing this noise only happens when all the radiator valves are closed? Try leaving one radiator without a trv at all, it sounds like water hammering due to pressure build up.

oh thats interesting. but i dont think that's it. we do have a few valves that are not TRV, bathrooms and hallway and in one bedroom.

I recalibrated the valve and so far it is holding up. fingers crossed.

Possible faulty valve (not the Tado)
