New Install, heating not working, spare wire behind the old board not connected

Hi I have tried to install wireless controller where previous controller was danfloss FP715si. I marked up all the wires and took off the old controller and there was a wire behind that was not connected to anything.

The heating does not work, after trying to reinstall old controller again the heating still doesn't work and the old wired thermostat has no lights on it.

can anyone help please? here was the wiring before I started.

    here is the wire behind that comes out of a group of wires with the brown one connected to number 4 in the first pic which is the heating
