Smart TRV and temperature reading

Hi Community

As a newbie to Tado Smart TRVs I have a fairly basic question where I can't find a definitive answer - what temperature does the Smart TRV measure ? If I set a TRV to say, 20C I note that the 'real time' temp as seen in the app, from the TRV, can go above that especially when the heating system first comes on. I thought that once the TRV temp was above that set in the app then the TRV would close the valve and isolate the radiator. Is that assumption correct? Is there any way to check the TRV valve position?

    The trvs measure air temperature. Tado isn’t an on off thermostat so it won’t necessarily switch off at target temperature. There’s a good explanation here https://community.tado.com/en-gb/discussion/comment/72164/#Comment_72164

    It supposedly learns how your room heats up so it doesn't automatically shut down the valve/heat the moment it hits the target temp.
