Tado to replace Honeywell
I have an oil fired system, with a hot water tank. Currently it uses a Honeywell HCW80 wireless thermostat. There is a Honeywell R6660D relay/receiver unit in the airing cupboard and a Honeywell ST9400c 7 day, 2 channel programmer next to the boiler.
I’d like to replace this lot with the V3+ wireless starter kit. I presume that the Tado wireless receiver replaces the R6660D, but what happens with the S9400c programmer that is currently used please?

I think the answer, so far as heating is concerned, is that you can set the programmer to permanently on as the tado app will look after the heating schedule. Out of interest why are you not considered the Honeywell smart heating solution as you already have the latter’s receiver / relay ?0

The receiver is only compatible with that thermostat. The thermostat doesn’t seem to send signals very often - this morning the heating was programmed on at 0630 for example, at 7am I gave up, wound the thermostat temp right down and then up again to force it to send a signal to make the heating come on. Been like that since we got it despite replacing the thermostat.

Might it be an RF problem between the thermostat and the receiver (thick walls between the two etc) ? One of tado's Achilles heels is its poor RF performance so it might be worth considering this before opting for the system . . .

We replaced the same Honeywell setup with a Tado Wireless starter kit. It’s quite straightforward for a competent DIYer. The Wireless receiver replaces the Honeywell ST9400c. You’ll bridge (join) two wires in the Honeywell room stat receiver, using a wago connector from the kit. Tado should give you detailed wiring instructions when you start the install.
