Tado with Vitodens 333

I installed my Tado wired thermostat according to the instructions in the app, but the Vitodens 333 boiler is not controlled by it. The RVT's work fine, as long as I set the boiler to heating all day long.
Also, the app doesn't show hot water heating (it did in my old home, where I had a Vitodens 100-W).
How can I make the app/thermostat control the heating and have hot water show up in the app?
I found a Reddit post saying it's better to connect the wires to COM and NO instead of + and -, but I don't know anything about this so I'd rather ask here if that's a good idea. Attached is a picture of how the thermostat's connected to the wires now.
