How to swap Drayton LP522 and Salus to Tado

Moved into a new home which has Glow Worm Energy 30s boiler, Dayton LP522 controller which controls hot water and central heating with wireless Salus RXRT505 which controls central heating. This set up also has Dayton twin channel motorized zone activators.

I am planning to remove the Dayton controller and Salus wireless receiver and replace it with Tado.

Please could you share the instructions if anyone else has similar setup.

@SK1 Welcome. Looking at your existing controls, the most likely replacement would be the Tado wireless starter kit and as many TRVs as you wish. When you start the install, reach out to Tado support and they will provide a wiring guide. Please be aware that Tado have announced that they will launch the Tado X version in the autumn.

To ask for help on wiring from Tado users, always best to provide full details, including pictures of the present configuration. Easiest to post pictures from the web version.

Assuming the UK Tado wireless receiver will replace your existing LP822 programmer …

The diagrams suggest that rewiring LP822 > Tado should be straighforward: N > N. L > L. 1 > HW NC. 2 > CH NC. 3 > HW NO. 4 > CH NO. Earth > Earth. Add two links from L to CH COM and HW COM (from the starter kit).

There are multiiple Salus receivers, assuming yours is e.g. a Salus RXRT505?

You'll link the COM and NO wires on terminals 1 and 2 with a Wago connector from the starter kit. If you remove the receiver, you'll need to safely terminate the Live and Neutral.

If in doubt, best to consult a professional.

  • Many Thanks wateroakley, much appreciated. It really helps.

I will post the internal wiring pictures of LP522 set up too for further clarity.
