new boiler, old tado

Hi I have a classic tado system (extension TX02) which has up until recently been controlling an 52-year old potterton boiler with a CH pump and gravity hot water feed to the cylinder. If HW on, the boiler fired but not the pump. For CH, both the boiler and the pump operated.

I have just had installed an Ideal Logic S30 boiler with 2 motorised valves, one for hot water (now a sealed system) and one for CH (this I think is called S-plan). There's a Salus wiring centre but basically the installer has just connected it so that the 2 control cables from the Tado each control one of the valves. He hasn't rewired the extension at all. As a result, when the heating is on, both valves are open, but for HW only, only one of the valves (actually and correctly the HW one!) is open. Knowing how it used to work, this makes sense, but obv isn't right! Listening to the relays, If I switch HW and CH on, I hear 2 clicks. If I then switch the HW off, neither relay then opens, which makes sense on the old system which couldn't have CH without HW. I'm assuming I need to tell the tado about the new system but if I search for the installation instructions it can't even find my (very common) boiler.

I've contacted Tado about a week ago but had no reply. Any suggestions where I can go to find guidance about changing boilers from gravity to 2-port S-plan but keeping Tado?

Thanks, Neil

Sorted! After a week and a half of head scratching I finally managed to find the instructions to suit my boiler. I'd assumed I'd need to re-wire but actually got into the settings on the thermostat - its about 8 years since I had to do this and took a while to find the right instructions on the internet. To do this I had to pretend I still had my old drayton controller and go through the installation from there. I now have independent control over HW and CH.

  • Aargh it just got worse! I no longer even have HW control on the app. I guess this is because I started looking for installation instructions via the devices tab.
