Not working after battery Change
I've found out that if batteries are left too long inside the stat it corrodes the terminals. Clean the terminals by scraping off the corrosion with a small screwdriver, hopefully this will allow it to work.

I've only generally found that issue when expired batteries are left in a device too long. What brand of batteries were you seeing this with? Personal experience suggests that cheap batteries are more likely to leak
