Tado app working and all devices connected but boiler not firing up when the app calls for heat
My system is about 7 years old, not sure what version but is hard wired with an internet bridge and extension kit. In the last week, the boiler has stopped firing up when tado calls for heating or hot water. I then have to switch everything off and then on (bridge/extension kit & boiler) and it starts. Has anyone had this problem before and fixed it successfully? If so how please?
Also I am wondering if any of the kit needs replacing given its age? has anyone done this?
Many thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, in my first home. The extension kit kept forgetting to fire the boiler. Had to turn everything off, wait for 30 mins, then turn it on and it would work for a few hours and then…fail again. When I contacted Tadom, they immediately understood the problem, - they can access error messages which we dont see. In my case they had to send me a replacement wireless receiver which fixed it.
The wireless receiver has lights for incoming power, the wireless connection. Then:
- when there is a call for CH, the CH lamp turns on.
- when there is a call for HW, the HW lamp turns on.
- These LEDs (with either CH or HW) only light up when actual power is going out of the receiver to the boiler. In this way you know whether it is the Tado side, or the plumbing and boiler side which has the problem.
Try this sequence of checks:
- From the app to call for heat in the wireless receiver, either on CH or HW, only one, not both. Then repeat it for the other side. With each attempt:
- Does the app show the relevant room lighting up or does it remain unmoved in colour? This tells you whether the background system is actually responding.
- Then go to the wireless receiver. There are specific lamps for CH, and HW. They light up when one calls for hesat.
- Did the relevant lamp turn on to show there has been a real actual request for heat?
- This tells you whether the messages from the app or the rooms are being forwarded to the receiver for action.
- If all is well in this test then the relationship between the app and the receiver is working correctly. If not, press for Tado support through the app.
- Now go to the wireless receiver and press the CH button.
- Does it light up?
- Does the boiler fire?
- Do the same with the HW button. Same results?
- If this all works and (1) is fine, then your problem is not the Tado talking to the boiler, it is something else. If not, press for Tado support.
If the Tado end is working. You have these options:
- Check through the diagnostics offered by the boiler. If you are then open, and you have a maintenance contract with the boiler's service agents, ask them to send out a service engineer. Explain how you've tested the system and it isnt the controls that are causing the problem.
- Or have a plumber study the motorised valves and check if one is stuck or has electrically burned out. Usually one motorised zone valve goes in our home ever 3-5 years.
