Can i use a smart thermostat as a temperature sensor?

As we speak the Smart Thermostat has been reduced by 50% on Amazon Prime day here in the UK. The Wireless Temp Sensor is technically cheaper but it wont get delivered till Nov 20th! For an extra £10 you can get the fully blown Thermostat.

Can you just use the smart thermostat as a wireless temp sensor instead?
