@Treskelion1959 I've been looking at your online comments toinght. Sorry, volunteer moderators are unable to add 'X' or 'V3+' tags to the thread. Maybe @Emcee can help?

@tadouser224 So sorry your experience with Tado was unhappy. Our 2024 gas consumption is running at circa 50% compared to the same temperarture in 2018/21.

  • Hello @tadouser224

Please see the message from my suprior, Jurian, from a few minutes ago.

  • I did receive it thanks. Tado want the units back to investigate them which is good to hear.

@wateroakley interesting to see your savings. Of course I didn't have tado long enough for it to "learn" but comparing it to two other thermostats (the other smart thermostat I've used and my pre existing Honeywell) tado used the most energy, approximately 10-20% more but it's over a short time so hard to assess properly. Tado would fire in the morning for 1-2hrs constantly and the house would overheat and then would let it cool. My alternatives stop early and allow the hot rads to continue to heat the house which is more comfortable and cheaper. Tado may have learnt this but I didnt get the opportunity to allow it to (although my others didn't need to learn this and did it from the off)

  • @wateroakley how did you get this graph? I went to the link and it only provides data for an entire postcode and up to 2022 in raw format. Thanks!

@Treskelion1959 pleased to hear your new receiver is working and you have moved away from the older energy wasting ideas. In this house I was allowed to add pipe insulation where not visible, SWMBO prevailed with boxing in visible pipework.

@tadouser224 sorry that you have given up with Tado, understandably.
FYI, it took three months to figure out what worked well for us with Tado. There are many variables. I suspect your description of constant boiler firings and overheating indicates that ‘independent’ mode for TRVs might have been a strategy that others find best for their homes.
Hope you find a good working solution for your home,

@tadouser224 The magic of a spreadsheet. I downloaded the published yearly data files and imported the postcode data into an excel spreadsheet. 2023 and 2024 postcode and outcode data is a linear extrapolation. The gas consumption postcode data appears to be mostly complete. Leccy consumption data for every year is problematic for some of the postcodes I looked at. Outcodes can be iffy too.
