Can I "feed" the temperature value of a thermometer instead of the actual thermostat?

Hi

So I have quite an issue. I am moving to a new apartment and I am installing the gas right now. I wanted to have a tado thermostat because - for me, it's the best. There was an awesome deal on amazon for the "wired version". So I ask the gas installing company and they told me that it was fine.

Three weeks later (last week) when they were installing the thermostat they told my parents (I was at work) that the thermostat was not ok and they offered to put a "better one" "wireless version"- which is not smart things compatible because it was a little bit tricky to connect the wired thermostat to the furnace/boiler.

So my question is whether I can just put the thermostat next to the boiler, put a thermometer in the living room, and tell the thermostat to ignore "thermostat value"?
