Two Zones valves get controlled with one Smart Thermostat

Hi there,

We have Combi boiler to control two zone valves, one for lounge and another for the rest of house.

From the boiler there are 3-core two cables to two thermostat locations (downstairs hall and downstairs lounge). I'd like to replace to one Tado Smart thermostat.

How convert two separate thermostats to one Tado smart thermostat? Is it possible to connect to cables to one Smart thermostat?

Thanks.

  • It’s certainly possible to adapt your wiring so that one thermostat controls both valves. The change will need to be made in the wiring centre and will need an electrician or heating engineer. Unless you know someone who can do it for mates rates, it will be more economical to purchase a second thermostat. Swapping the thermostats is easy and you will get wiring instructions from Tado.

  • For a property over 150m2, two zone valves with a single room thermostat would not comply with Part L of the Building Regs. (At least two space heating circuits to create zones, each with independent time control, a room thermostat and TRVs.) For Part L compliance, either: a) a second thermostat (presumably you have TRVs on the rads?); or b) changes in the wiring centre for one thermostat/receiver to control both valves, with SRVs on (most/all) radiators to create the zones.
