Ideal Logic+ Combi (pre 2014) not working as intended
Hi all,
I've recently moved into a property that has an Ideal Logic+ Combi 30 boiler (one with the smaller LCD screen - see image). It currently only has a Mechanical 24hr timer installed in the front face.
I have attempted to install my Tado extension kit but it doesn't seem to fire the boiler or stop it from firing. As part of the fault finding I have removed the extension kit completely and left the room stat bridging wire (red loop) disconnected to ensure the terminals were working as expected. I expected the boiler not to fire with this wire disconnected and the mechanical timer set to the "always on" switch, however the boiler still fires. I'm assuming this issue is preventing the extension kit from having much effect on the boiler as the Tado instructions state that the mechanical timer should be left in the "always on" position.
Anyone else come across this? Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Not this boiler but the next newer model with a wireless timer and I have to keep it connected and set to always on for my tado to work0

Hi Robti,
Thanks for your response.
When you say "I have to keep it connected" do you mean the red bridge wire?
Is that different to the instructions from the Tado app when setting it up?
Thanks

This is one of those typical cases where I'd advise you to do the following:
- Follow the installation steps in the app (if you have not already). In principle this should tell you how to wire your devices, as your specific Ideal Logic Combi 30 is in our database. There should also be a remark about the timer.
- If this does not help or you've already followed the steps, please contact our support. They have experience with these boilers. Please do take pictures of how you wired both the boiler and the Extension Kit and send it to them.
Personally, when I was doing support for tado in the past I was not working with these very UK-market specific boilers and 230V switched live wiring, so I am not entirely confident enough to offer support here.
I do know that the timer should be set to always on, as @Robti suggested.

Hi Rob,
Thank you for your response.
I've followed the instructions in the app but upon closer inspection afterwards, the boiler pictured in the app doesn't match my boiler (boiler pictured is a newer generation of mind). I'm not sure if these are just generic images or if they are fairly accurate to the different models and generations. It's because of this that I am unsure as to whether the wiring was correct for my setup because I had wired everything as instructed but the boiler didn't respond at all.
I've tried a variety of things, wiring as instructed, mechanical timer set to on, off and even removed the timer. However, removing the timer prevents the boiler from firing for central heat (as it should). The puzzling thing is that the boiler is firing even though the room stat/timer bridge is removed. I would have thought that removing this would have the same effect as removing the mechanical timer?
I'll try contacting support regarding this to see if they have any insights.
Thanks
