Ideal Independent C24 + Opentherm - Guide
So it is a tutorial on how to upgrade your Ideal Independent C24 boiler to opentherm even if a professional tado app and many people say it's not possible with that model.
I emailed the manufacturer and they said that the c24 is compatible with opentherm, they said that I need to buy only an opentherm harness kit, but that's not true, trust me, you have to buy two things.
You need to purchase a weather compensation kit because only that kit has proper cables for the opentherm. You won't use an outdoor sensor with the opentherm, you only need cables from that kit
And you need to buy it as well if you do not have it in the boiler:
I have a tado wired kit because it is compatible with opentherm, wireless UK version is not compatible with opentherm.
Picture of it + how it is connected to tado:
Connection of power and tado to the boiler + new harness kit (very easy to install):
You need to disconnect a timer:
Setup your tado for opentherm in the professional tado app and it will work.
Enjoy.

Thanks for the guide 👍️. I hope this will help a few people.
Interesting that they would build a boiler with Opentherm capability, yet did not install the wires as standard. I guess it is one of the reasons why we have a separate wireless receiver for the UK, as digital interfaces are so rarely used there (and dual relay is used (almost) nowhere else).
The wiring itself is not rocket science, yet it is too involved for us to actively suggest to our customers. Still though, if someone reads the guide above and wants to try this themselves, it looks doable.

Thank you for taking the time to upload this, I have fitted quite few smart, non Tado, devices in the past but now getting more into Opentherm and this kind of advice is invaluable.
Perhaps there should be a section in the community for Opentherm setups?

Yeah, it took me some time to research and figure out that the boiler is compatible with opentherm because lack of cables…
I even bought an opentherm harness kit which they suggested in the email, but sadly that kit is not compatible with Ideal Independent C24 haha
So I had to figure it out again what to do now and then I noticed on pictures of different kits that cables from weather kit compensation are compatible with that model and support opentherm connection.
It is an old boiler and yes, it's sad that I had to buy all the extra cables and do all the research.
I hope it will save a lot of time for anyone <3
