Wiring receiver to Ideal Eco Esprit
I am trying to connect v3+ starter kit EU to my boiler. I have no separate thermostat and have a mechanical timer only on my Ideal Eco Esprit boiler. I have been sent instructions but have no terminal labelled roomstat 1 and 2. Can I remove the link and wire the black and grey either way round? Do i leave the mechanical timer on and in place? My current set up is shown in purple and then the last photo is what Tado sent me as my boiler is not on the install list. Thank you

@emlou71 Hi. That helped and the colours on the internal timer helped confirm that this is the installation guide for that boiler: Esprit-ECO.pdf. Pages 27-28 are important.
According to the guide, the boiler is switched using mains voltage relay based switching system. So a need to be careful. Power off when taking these steps:
- The timer does not need to be dismounted. Rotate this to permanently on (page 30 of the guide describes that).
- Remove that loop of red cable from the chocolate strip.
- In Britain the conventions for wiring are: Permanant Live is BROWN, switched live is BLACK. So to not confuse any Brit electricians, suggest you do the following:
- Place the plastic cap on the grey lead, not the brown one
- Label the brown wire as COM - at both ends, boiler end and Tado stat end
- Label the black one as (SWITCHED LIVE) at the boiler end, and NO at the Tado Stat end
- At the boiler: wire in the brown wire opposite the red wire; the black wire opposite the grey wire.
- Firt the stat's back plate to the wall:
- wire brown to COM on the Stat;
- wire the black to NO on the Stat;
- wire the grey one in P1.
- Remove the paper isolating the batteries. Scan the stat's code, ensure it is installed in the app. Mate everything up with the internet bridge. Fit the stat front over the back.
- Then power up. Should work.

Would you please clarify the exact boiler model first?
Seperately please open up the timer's cover plate and check the wiring.
- The red wire should, through a couple of links, connect to PIN 1 on that timer.
- The grey wire may similarly link to PIN 3 on the timer.
- Would you verify that?
The reason why the question of model is being raised is this:
- In the original ECO series the wiring for thermostat switching was RED and BLACK.
- In the later model it was RED and GREY, or BLACK and GREY.
- The difference is important because the RED+GREY pair used to appear in the series that supported low voltage digital switching; whereas the RED+BLACK pair used to appear in the series which switched using mains voltage.
We must get this right before daring to wire anything in.

Thank you so much that all worked. Only issue I now have is when the heating is on the towel radiator in the bathroom is very loud. This is only one in my house without a TRV on it. I have TRVs in master bedroom, bed 2, bed 3, hallway, lounge and kitchen - 6 in total. thanks in advance for any help you can offer

There will be two valves on that rad, one which carries the hot water in, the other carries the cooler water back to the boiler. Turn down the cooler one 1/4 turn at a time until the noise is tolerable.
