Dedicated tile for boiler status on/off (same as hot water)

Im fairly new to Tado but one feature i've seen that is so blindly obvious i though i was doing something wrong.

It would be great to have a tile on the app which shows if the wireless recevier is actively calling for heat. Similar to the "hot water on/off" tile. A boiler on/off tile.

I know there are the ~~~ wavey lines on the TRV's but these cannot be relied upon wether the boiler is actually running. The only surefire way to know is to visually look at the wireless recevier LED. Which is annoying a simple tile seems a good way to do it.

  • It is worth the change. Would also help if that tile could be used to shut off all central heating.
  • Agreed, and along with that showing the boiler activity properly in the history graph. The call for heat levels are near meaningless in a relay system and don't allow you to see boiler cycles or monitor behaviour and result in me having to get up and go to the boiler to see what's happening.

  • Totally agree. Since the app has the ability to let you select your boiler, it would be the minimum to get specific options for that, since it's completely useless having the three indicating the heating power.. also this makes the care & protect feature useless.

  • Agreed, that would be an excellent idea and I would also suggest a similar symbol on the thermostat itself. The Tapo one is the first thermostat I've ever had that doesn't show whether the boiler is on or off.

  • Been thinking. In the UK, most implementations involve zone valves, cylinders - and the way those are wired places the trigger to fire the boiler beyond the reach of Tado's direct electronics. One example we have is an oil fired boiler, running entirely with zone valves and relays switches, with a Tado extension kit and TRVs. There is no way, when the boiler cuts out early, that the extension kit can be informed directly. Indirectly the data stream from each room should be able to identify the fact that the rooms are actually cooling- and it is possible to add a bit of logic to identify the fact that when comparing performance to normal windows, it is worthwhile alerting the end user that something is afoot. The app does that sometimes, but its algorithms to identify that event are, well, poor. Would suggest that when the System is in relay mode this algorithm is improved and it sends an alert via the app.

    In instances where there are digital controls (opentherm, EBUS, etc) there is an actual data stream running between Tado's electronics and the boiler. The same algorithm could still apply, but this time there would be no excuse- because when the boiler stops producing heat, the data stream changes rapidly.

    We have many charity service users who struggle to afford to cover their heating bills. It is more troubling when their boilers cant be serviced, or break down - and the elderly dont know how to think about these matters. In a Western European economy where more countries have crossed the line where more than 20% are over the age of 60, there is an increasing need for families to check on their loved ones and to be made aware that these problems are occuring. The Far East, the US West Coast also face the same demographic challenge.
