Adding a Second Wireless Sensor for Independent Zone Control

Hi everyone,

I’m currently using Tado to manage my heating, but I’m facing an issue with my setup and need advice.

In my home:

  • Downstairs: Floor heating is controlled by a wireless Tado temperature sensor, and it works great. Used to be AEG thermostat.
  • Upstairs: Radiators are controlled by AEG thermostats and separate valves on the boiler.

The problem is that upstairs is currently limited to what’s happening downstairs because tado overrules everything now, and I’d like to manage the two zones independently. Would it be possible to add a second Tado wireless temperature sensor for the upstairs zone and configure it to work separately from the downstairs system?

Any insights or guidance would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Sorry its been so long in coming back. Have read your post a few times and genuinely, have not seen a configuration like this. The two main boiler pipes go into a manifold which has the following terms inscribed on it:

    • V VL
    • VR
    • R VL
    • RR

What do they refer to? Do you have any idea?

There seem to be two pumps. (1) The Grundfos Alpha on the right and (2) a three speed pump on the left - or is it something else. And from the photo, you seem to have a wireless receiver (also called an Extension Kit)- controlling something above the photo- which means there is yet another Tado wired thermostat fitted somewhere talking to it. Where is that and what is it?

Logically, the system would normally have the following components.

    1. ONE primary pump handing all heat leaving the boiler.
    2. Central Heating should then go to motorised zone valves:
      1. One zone valve which is closely tied to the underfloor heating downstairs
      2. More zone valves (controlling heat to the upstairs radiators).

Is it possible that the AEG thermostat you replaced is similar to the other AEG thermostats? Would you obtain the precise model of thermostat and take a photograph of it? Post it here. We can try to help.
