Measuring room temperature.

I have a feeling I know the answer to this.

I have 8 TRVs across 2 zones.

Two of the worst offenders for horrendously wild temperature measurements have had Wireless Thermostats added to the room in a sensible place, correcting the problem in now 4 rooms (including the Wired Thermostats in the Hall and Landing.

As I cannot get any more Wireless Thermostats without being thrown out by the missus, are there any other suggestions for improving things in the other 4 rooms?

Is the hole in the top of the TRV the location of the sensor?

Are the 90 degree Oventrop Adapters a real option (has anyone successfully used these to overcome this particular issue?)

Is it possible to use a third party temperature measuring device like the cheaper Tapo unit via Alexa to measure the temperature, or have Tado closed off that particular avenue?

The TRVs seem really hopeless at measuring the room temperature accurately, they turn the heat off way too early making them all but useless in 4 of my 8 rooms. any help to correct this is welcome. Previously the Kasa TRVs I owned seemed a lot less prone to this problem, but they had their own very serious issues so I had to get rid.

(Incidentally yes, I have tried using the Offset feature, but that only changes the overall temperature at one set point. The problem is across a wide range of temperatures and Offset cannot deal with that, not even close.)
