Heating Rooms

Hi i was thinking of putting my heating on all day at 16° just to see how much it actually costs out of curiosity more than anything else as i always hear keeping it on 24/7 is false economy but as i say curiosity got the better of me. So I set the tado up for all rooms with smart valves to 16° and just left it after a few hours i went to the toilet and the rad was on not very hot but enough to feel the heat on the radiator and the chill to be out the bathroom. So i nipped in my bedroom and the radiator was cold and the room was cold now there is only one single radiator in the bathroom and a double in the bedroom now this happened over 2 days same situation bathroom on and bedroom not, both rooms are outside walls so i thought maybe the bedroom rad would need bled but it's ok when it's set at say 19° or upwards it is quite hot at those temps. So why would one rad be on but the other not on both set at 16° ?

Not got any heating on at the minute and the tado app is reading bathroom 8.3° and bedroom 10° would this be the reason the bathroom rad seems to be on more if not all the time compared to the bedroom ?

  • What did the Tado app say the room temps were when you checked? Although the bedroom might have felt cold, the temp at the TRV might have been above 16 so no need to heat. This is why a separate temp sensor is better than the TRV as you can position it better to get the room to the temp you want

Your current room temps are pretty cold. What's the outside temp where you are? I would say you should be looking at improving insulation as running the heating 24/7 will probably end up costing quite a bit through heat loss

I would agree though that since your bathroom is 1.7C below the bedroom, that room must be losing heat faster if they both started at 16 so that radiator will end up being on more of the time

  • Yeah it's a council house and the insulation is garbage. I just set them at 16° never checked what they were at when i felt the rads.
The tado system I have is the wireless smart thermostat starter kit V3 + which has the wireless receiver, internet bridge and the wireless temperature sensor which i keep in the living room and 3 smart trv's in living room, bathroom and bedroom so you can use more than one temp sensor per system ?

@1plus2 Hello. Yes, you can add wireless temperature sensors to the rooms with your TRVs as the measuring device. In the app, the temperature sensor is usually the default measuring device. The wireless temperature sensor is more accurate +/- 0.1 deg C, versus +/-0.5 deg C for the TRVs.
