Need urgent help with set-up! Moved in to new home

Hi,

I recently moved in to a new flat and the previous owners left their Tado system. We have a bridge, smart thermostat, and an extension kit. I have successfully paired the thermostat but am unable to do so for the extension kit. We are connected to a Vaillant Eco fit pure 418 (not a combiboiler).

We are facing the two problems:

  1. Hot water: initially the smart thermostat was showing the 'water' option and we could turn it off and on. But now this is no longer the case, the option is just not there anymore. It only shows room temperature and the setting. Our water has not been getting hot lately (only lukewarm) even when I set the extension kit to 'always on'. The boiler says the water is hot but it's not. The app also shows no option.
  2. How to connect the extension kit, putting it in pairing mode along with the bridge is not working. We haven't added it yet to the app, given we cannot find the serial number. Its screwed in and I am worried about pulling it off as I might break something.

Would be eternally grateful if someone could help us out. Many thanks!

Turn the power off to the extension kit first. If you look under the bottom edge where the cables go in you will see 2 screws. They are captive, undo them a few turns and you will be able to pull out the bottom edge then lift up and away from the backplate that is attached to the wall. The extension kit makes electrical contact with the backplate with a row of metal pins at the top edge that plug into contacts in the backplate, there are no wires attached to the removable part. The QR code is on the back of the removable part

  • Thank you, I was able to connect my extension kit now. It seems to be pulsing and responding to the thermostat.

The issue of hot water is still there though.. we cannot get our hot water to work. The option is not there (anymore) on the thermostat and is also not on the app.

We do not have a combi boiler so I cannot seem to do anything manually. Even when I turn the extension kit to 'always on' it doesnt work. We had hot water before. The boiler itself shows that the water should be warm (see photos).

    Thank you for the help.

  • I have a combi boiler myself so I'm not familiar with system boilers. When I set up my system the app showed a hot water control though having a combi boiler it did.nothing. it bothered me that it was there however and I asked support to remove it which they did. Recently when I changed from an ebus to opentherm system the hot water control came back. I was using the Tado Pro app to make changes and I found that there was an option using the pro app to enable or disable the hot water control. The pro app can also check your system status, it will ask you to scan the QR code on your Internet bridge.
  • This helped a lot - managed to get the hot water added to the app as well as the thermostat.

The hot water is still not there though, so I suspect it might be a boiler issue - I will get the plumber out. Many thanks

When you say the hot water is still not there, what do you mean?

Presumably if it's a system boiler you've got a hot water cylinder somewhere. If you've only just added the hot water to the app and turned it on, it'll take a while for the cylinder to heat up, as presumably the water in there was cold if it wasn't working previously?

Does the boiler fire up when you turn on the hot water in the app now?
  • In the app and on the boiler it says the water is warm at 60 degrees C. On the thermostat it's turned to 'on' and in the app as well. However, turning on the tap still gives ice cold water.

What makes me suspect that its a boiler issue is that even when I put the extension kit to 'always on' we did not get our hot water either.

@tnau Tado is still having issues with the device connectivity. My heating is working but not the hot water. Hopefully, support is looking into this and will resolved the issue. Others are experiencing the same water or heating issues.
