Averaging 14 hours a day heating?

Hi all,

Ive noticed in the app that im averaging 14 hours a day heating, the past 5 days during this cold spell are closer to 20!

Something doesn't seem right to me? Any tips?

I've got 1 wireless receiver next to the boiler and that's my only zone controller, 7 rooms with radiator TRV's, the kitchen with UFH which is controlled by a smart sensor on the wall wired to the UFH system and then hot water.

I have set the schedules up so that all rooms are on at similar times. Unused rooms are rarely on at all.

The kitchen with it being UFH naturally takes a while to get to temp which I've set to 19 with fall back of 17.

I thought I'd got it all set up quite well but that figure seems really high?

@Adzyp welcome. It’s been quite cold over the past few days. Pre Tado our data shows we use 160 kWh per day. With Tado we use about 100 kWh per day. The actual heating times per day are subject to the outside temperature .

You might consider setting some of the individual rooms to independent so they cannot call for heat. I’ve found that if every TRV can make the request they tend to follow one after another so that the boiler is running for extended periods . . .
  • @hugbilly ok so if I did that, how would that room heat up?

I assume it would only heat up if the schedule kicks in, the valve is opened and the heating is already on elsewhere?

If it was to open up on schedule but no others require heat, it wouldn't heat up?

That's correct but I find it works quite well in my home as the communal areas are at lower temperatures than the living rooms and when the latter call for heat the input at the independent valves appears adequate . . .

  • Done this for the past few days but the app doesn't help me to figure out the difference. The problem is, if the room drops below temp and it needs heat but its not getting any due to one of the controlling rooms not being on, it just sits in that state for hours on end. So the stats show i've had the heating on for 11 hours already today but in reality the boiler has probably only been on for half of that if not less
