If you dont want the thermostat to control heating, just set it so high on the app that it will keep the boiler going until the boiler's internal safety trip triggers. May prove wasteful and uncomfortable but will meet your requirement.
Note this: when you are away dial down the temperature enough to slow down fuel use, but remember you still have to prevent the house freezing, so setting home temperature at 5 degrees is crucial to preventing burst pipes. Burst pipes due to freezing look different to pipes which have failed at their joints and loss adjusters can tell the difference.

Hello @murf
Where the boiler and pipework location is potentially susceptible to freezing, such as an outside cupboard, it should have a wired frost stat and pipe stat. If the boiler is inside your home, it probably will not.
We set the Tado App 'Away temperature' setting to 'Frost protection'. You'll have to remember to tell the App that you are 'away', or pay for the Tado 'automatic' fee. When you are 'away' … that should kick in at or before 5 deg C and prevent freezing. When you are heading home … reset to 'home', or simply increase the temperature setting manually.

@murf I'm pleased to hear it's working now just the way you want.
BTW, it took us three months to figure out what worked well for us. In the third year, we're still refining the settings to keep the heating bills down.

Thanks for the advice guys. Seems to be working now just the way I want it. Have been playing around with the settings all weekend, and am starting to get my head around it. 👍
