Hello,

I have just set-up successfully a Tado°X system based on Matter. Now I would like to add other devices which are not related to heating or temperature control for two reasons :

  • To expand the Matter network and make the connection to the most remote thermometer more robust.
  • Control other appliances in my home through the Tado App on my phone.

One simple thing I would like to add is for instance a smart plug. Tado° does not propose that and the one I bought to test, is not recognized by the Tado App.

For these few extras devices, I would like to continue to use the Tado° bridge and not have to add another hub or use another application.

What are the plans from Tado° in supporting other Matter devices outside of climate control ? Is there a list of non-thermometer Matter devices you support ?

    Hey,

    I think you got two different things confused: Thread and Matter.

    Thread is the way devices connect to each other, similar to Wi-Fi/Zigbee/Bluetooth.
    Adding certain always-on devices to your Thread network can extend the reach of that network and increase stability.

    Matter, on the other hand, is the language your devices use to talk to each other. (Like HTTP for Websites)
    The tadoX Bridge acts as a translator (i.e. bridge) between your Wi-Fi network and your Thread network.
    Thermostat ←Thread→ tadoX Bridge ←Wi-Fi→ Your Wi-Fi Router ← Wi-Fi → Your Phone

    If you bought a thread plug, it should be able to connect via the tadoX bridge.
    If you bought a non-thread matter plug, then the tadoX Bridge has nothing to do with that.

    For support for third-party devices in the app:
    I guess, tado doesn't have an incentive to support that. But given the matter support, you don't have to use the tado app at all, if you don't want to. You can add your thermostats to Apple or Google Home, Alexa, Home Assistant, or whatever Matter Controller you like.
