I want advice about what Tado parts I need and how to wire them to a 2 port 'S' plan system

I am trying to get variable temperature control and timing from a Tado controller. Present system:

Thorn EMI Olympic Boiler 38/50B (old but I am told simple)

Grasslin/Towerchron QE2 electronic 7 day timer (With a back plate)

Satchwell wired hall thermostat

The system has 2 motorised valves, hot water cylinder with a bimetal thermostat on the tank, a pump and I think it is called an 'S' plan .

I want to have control over the temperature set on the hall thermostat (the water tank thermostat is not adjusted)

Any advise on what parts to purchase and how to wire up would be appreciated.

    Hi.

    • The installation guide for that boiler is here: Olympic_38_50F.pdf. You shouldnt need to get involved in the boiler's wiring.
    • The installation guide for the programmer is here: Towerchron QE1/QE2 (GB). It needs to be replaced by a Tado wireless receiver (also called the Extension Kit). According to the guide, in moving from the Towerchron QE1 to a Tado wireless receiver, this is the wiring migration.
      • Move L(ive) on the QE1 to LIVE on the Tado wireless receiver, and to HW COM, and to CH COM with bridging wires
      • Move N(eutral) on the QE1 to Neutral on the Tado wireless receiver
      • Move HW ON on the QE1 to HW NO on the Tado wireless receiver
      • Move CH ON on the QE1 to CH NO on the Tado wireless receiver.
    • The picture below, is the wiring guide for your Satchwell. It needs to be replaced by a Tado wired thermostat.
      • Wires need to be migrated as follows:
      • PIN 4 is Neutral. This is moved to P1 on the Tado Wired thermostat.
      • Pin 3 is Live. This is moved to COM on the Tado Wired thermostat.
      • Pin 1 is Switched Live. This is moved to CH NO on the Tado Wired Thermostat.

Thats the wiring map from old to new (according to these guides). However would recommend that you email Tado support: Support@Tado.com - and ask them to give you the specific guides to replace your Towerchron QE1 and Satchwell TLM2253 to operate in Relay mode for an S Plan. They should come back with written instructions.

    Which parts do you need?

    • 1 x Internet bridge
    • 1 x Extension kit
    • 1 x Wired thermostat.

There are two generations of Tado products on the market. The most recent is the X series which seems to have special offers on right now.
