Cannot get the internet bridge to connect through my TP-link router (EE sim)

I've had a Tado at home for years (bridge and wired thermostat) and never had any problems. We are trying to fit one in a Lodge with a Morco GB24 Series 3 boiler and need a V3 Tado as there's no room thermostat (receiver, bridge and room sensor).

The bridge will not connect to the router (TP-Link TL-MR6400 with an EE Sim card). Solid power and router lights, flashing cloud light (so not connecting to the servers)

Tried all Tado help have suggested

Bought a TP-Link internet booster and tried connecting through that as I'd seen someone suggest on here I think.

Brought it home yesterday to try here and it connected within 60 seconds! (I created another account using my wife's email to work the Lodge Tado)

Any suggestions most appreciated just wondering if anyone has had similar experience an how they solved it as I've not been able to yet looking through related posts on here.

I have no personal experience of the problem, but I've seen reports in the forums that the Bridge may not play nicely with some (ISP) routers, due to the prehistoric data rates of the Bridge - 10 Mbps, IIRC. The solution in these cases has been to fit a (Gigabit?) switch between the router and the Bridge.

  • I had exactly that problem when I upgraded my Broadband. I put a cheap switch between the hub and the bridge, and the bridge linked immediately. It most certainly worked for me
  • Thanks for the replies, what exactly is the switch i need so I can order one to try?

Go onto Amazon and search for "gigabit switch". Then pick one that is modestly priced, with plenty of positive reviews. This one should do the job, I should think. If not, at least returns should be easy enough.

Oh, and you'll need an extra ethernet cable. I'm not sure whether one is included. I couldn't see it listed.

  • Thank you, ordering one so fingers crossed 🤞

@ian292 May I ask whether you've had success? It would help to know before advising others. Thanks.
