Tado X Wireless thermostat: temperature sensor instead of climate sensor in Home Assistant

I installed my Tado X devices in the Tado App. I have three wireless temperature temperature sensors I want to share to the Matter Server in Home Assistant.

The First one works fine, it sees the sensor as a Thermostat device (see below Node 1). And I can control it in Home Assisant with the climate sensor.

However the second one (and also the third one) are not recognized as a Thermostat device, but as Temperature device (see below Node 6). In Home Assistant I only have a temperature and humidity sensor, but no climate sensor.

What is wrong?

Node 1 shows the climate sensor:

Node 2 only temperature sensor:

  • I'm having a similar issue with Google Home. It's interesting that you got at least one of them to show up as a thermostat, I've only ever seen them as a simple temperature sensor in Google Home. I bought the wireless temperature sensor because my living room has 2 heating units and I wanted to be able to control them together with Google Home. Currently, that's not possible using the Google Home app, only by using the Tado app…which is not what I want.

I have noticed that the working device shows a Firmware version 1.1 in your screenshot, but the one that shows as a simple sensor only shows 1.0. Google Home also shows the Software version of my wireless thermometer as 1.0, so I'm wondering if some of the units come with updated firmware from the factory? Is there any way to update this firmware version?

  • You are right. Good catch. Yesterday I bought another Wireless Temperature X device, and this one is also recognized as Thermostat with Matter. So I have two faulty ones (firmware 1.0) and two working ones (firmware 1.1). I'll contact support.

  • Ah, interesting. Looks like that's actually the issue. I've contacted support as well, let's see what happens

  • Support was pretty quick and they've confirmed this can only be fixed by replacing the device. They're sending out a replacement and asked me to return my faulty unit.

Anyone who sees this in the future and has a similar problem should contact Tado support

  • Yes, I got a reply as well! 👍
