Temperature sensor accuracy

Is the temperature sensor accurate, it consistently reads 2 degrees c colder than it actually is. Is there a way to calibrate it properly?

How do you measure the "actual" temperature and where?

There is no calibration in tado, however if the temp is constantly off by 2 degrees, just set the offset to 2°.

The temp sensors in the TRVs are (naturally) inaccurate for the room they are in when heating, as they are about an inch away from the radiator.

The add on wireless temp sensor is accurate to within about 0.2C, based on my experience with a TRV, wireless sensor, and a separate Govee temperature& hygrometer next to the wireless sensor.

Edit - let me word that better. The TRV temp sensors are accurate. But because they are right next to the radiator by definition, the air around them will be much much warmer than the rest of the room. So when the radiators heat up, the TRV temperature will not reflect the overall room temperature. They warn up faster and go cold faster, meaning unnecessary heating calls. Placing wireless sensor in the middle of the room gives an accurate temperature for heating control and makes the overall Tado system vastly more effective. I actually don't know why Tado don't publicize the importance and savings of the wireless sensor more widely

Agree. They should release a smaller wireless thermostat without display that can be used to measure the room temperature and control the room.

I am sure if the price point reflected the sole use case, in other words being cheaper, may people would probably buy one and benefit from the better temp reading placement.

  • I doubt Tado will offer this at a cheap enough price point. It's another hardware platform to manage, and (at least in the UK) the wireless sensors are discounted fairly regularly to circa £40 GBP. A sensor with no display would need to be half that price to be attractive...

Other people have built exactly this 3rd party solution, but again the saving over an official discounted Tado sensor isn't worth it

You could build a version of this yourself fairly easily using a Govee sensor (£8 on Amazon) and a simple IFTTT or other script to live update temperature offset with the Tado api. But again, it's hassle and needs tech skills...
