Temperature on Thermostat not corresponding to App.

On the app my set temperature is 18.5 but on the thermostat it says it is heating to 19 degrees.

If I change the set temperature to 18 degrees in the app then the thermostat states that it is heating to 18 degrees.

Is there a solution to this? I have only noticed it happening recently. It’s not a battery problem because I changed it just before Christmas.

  • How long have you had this kit? A 0.7degree celcius difference can, sometimes become an issue when there has been a significant change in weather patterns, such as the ones we've had in the last week.

    • The algorithm which sets the temperature curve is weighted by weather changes, so sometimes when the weather outside is dropping fast the boiler will be given a sharper heating curve, exceeding the cut off temperature originally set, to reduce the risk of recycling.
    • Another cause is when the latent heat in the pipes has built up and thus, when the thermostat is turns off the call for heat, the remaining unused energy in the radiator and in-room connecting pipes, although no longer moving, will still drive up the temperature of the room.
    • This winter, noticed yet another cause. Even though upstairs rooms were not calling for heat, the heat generated downstairs warmed up the ceiling so much that two of the upper rooms were warm.

Usually the system builds statistical patterns and these variances trim out as long as the weather patterns are stable. However if you are uncertsain, perhaps you could contact Support and ask them to study the differences over a 24 hour cycle and give you their findings and recommendations.

  • Out of curiosity, which system do you have (X or V3+)?

If you were to reset the thermostat and it comes back on - do you still see that issue?
  • Originally V2, now V3. One upstairs thermostat had to be given an offset, to stop it consistently calling for more heat than was needed and that led to the problem stopping. That offset can be adjusted in the app.
  • The official reply from Tado is that the thermostat only shows whole numbers on the “set” temperature. I guess it is because it shows the little house symbol. The actual room temperature is shown with decimal points, but there are no symbols to take up space. The equipment is probably V2 but we only noticed the problem when we change the set temperature from 19 deg to 18.5 deg.

  • Use the app, change the offset temperature. There is a guide on the tado site explaining how to do that.
