Tado Marketing Test

@matttheotter not sure what that is? I’m V3+ I believe, auto assist is an additional premium option. I use the app for creating schedules and managing rooms, devices etc0
-
@Disgruntl3dUK np, just trying to see how this is being rolled, if its a beta app update or if its the main app store app.

@Emcee Do tado still continue to insist this is a test and is not being rolled out?
For a company that has such a flawed product portfolio, it's the beginning of the end. Even companies who charge a subscription for their products, basic usability is always free.
I've ordered two very cheap and basic wheel thermostats to replace the tado ones, arrival next week, and I can't wait. Like many others, I'm done with tado, I just cannot trust you any more.

Just bought this product had a nightmare with the awful customer support and now this, I think I'll return it0
-
@Emcee this isn’t aimed at you personally, I appreciate you’re stuck in the middle here between us and Tado, but this is a shocking response to an extremely poorly managed “test”.
Echoing many of the other comments, I spent roughly £500 buying into Tado last month on the premise that it doesn’t have a subscription fee beyond what was stated. I’m not going to tolerate an on-going subscription to access core functionality and I want a concrete answer so I can make an informed decision whether I need to return my products or not.7 -
It just gets worse 😂

Just checked reddit and it's on fire as predicted. I mean HOW blind are your higher ups?
3 -
@Emcee how can it be a test when I’m locked out with no way to dismiss, other than subscription which prompts Apple subscription confirmation??7
-
You guys just lost a substantial chunk of your customers. Me included and I’ve been with you since 2017. Excel bros continue to f up customers all across the board. Well, I’ll give you feedback with legs and wallet2
-
@emcee the fact you cannot share more shows that they will do whatever regardless3
-
Tado's server costs really should not be my problem, when I purchased a system that was advertised as being subscription-free.
My best hope is that Tado will see fit to give their internet gateway a local API option so that it can be accessed & controlled via the local network. I'd happily stop being a burden to Tado's cloud servers if they did that and would feel I could retract my 1-star review on the Play Store.
6 -
If I even see a suggestion of this in my app or any other further charges for the system, I’ll in touch with my credit card company for a refund due to misrepresenting the product.
Hope tado learns from this ‘test’ and realises it’s a sure fire way to kill their company.3 -
@Emcee, the punchline for this alleged ‘test’ best not be seeing if I click on the Apple subscription payment confirmation, which turns out to be fake.
I’m currently without access and control of my system. I have a family and child who will suffer from the current absence of the schedules I have created.
I can’t see how you can possibly make this right.2 -
A user on the Reddit post has suggested the Apple Subscription confirmation UI is fake. If that is indeed the case, then Tado is a deeply disturbed company that many users will want nothing to do with.
I will not be baited into clicking and participating in this sick experiment, regardless. RIP2 -
@emcee, how do I regain access to the app? It just shows this subscription signup page, and I can't get past it. I don't yet have things set up with another app, and I have child locks on radiators in kids' rooms, so there is no way to change temperatures.
I have contacted support with no response (should I file it as an emergency to get a response?).
4 -
@MWilkins I would file it as an emergency, given the time of year and lack of instructions.

For others will the issue, Tado's chatbot showed me this page:
Still can't use the app!
Realy wish they gave us some warning, I could have finished setting it all up. Changes like this shouldn't be done in winter - feels like extortion.
5 -
Have you tried using the website instead of the app for the time being? Agree this is shameful, but if it's an emergency, might be able to get you unstuck for now.

Can Tado confirm if the Apple Pay branded subscription UI that I’m paywalled behind is fake, which I believe it is? If it is, does Apple know and condone this misappropriation of its payment features? Should I report the app to Apple in that case and while I’m at it the Daily Mail, who would love to share this shocking headline?
Additionally if it is fake, do you realise how deranged it is to do this to customers in the middle of winter, many whom have young families?7 -
In the absence of clarification, I’ve reported it as such to Apple. You mess with my ability to heat my home in winter, you best know that I’m going to respond in kind.9
-
I feel a lot better for having ordered a Hive Thermostat and 5 TRVs (for starters).
Next week I will be uninstalling this tado crap.
And yes, I know Hive has a subscription, but I don’t see them (as a professional company) sinking so low as to charge to access their app for basic control.
If anyone is in Ireland and wants a load of tado for free, let me know, or it goes to the recycling centre at the end of the week.2 -
Now confirmed as fake on Reddit by a user, whilst absolutely nothing from Tado.
I’m literally lost for words. Also, just to make it clear, I will not be clicking subscribe regardless. I refuse to participate in this twisted experiment.
——
“..Page to acknowledge subscription pops up, everything seems legit. I click "Subscribe".
New page pops up with the text along the lines "it was an experiment, you will not be charged, the app remains free for next year." Checked my apps subscriptions, indeed no tado on the list. The app still working.”1 -
Just you watch they'll use the data of people who were forced to click subscribe or otherwise freeze in the middle of winter as justification to implementing it saying 'oh 60% of people subscribed so they're ok with it' - like hello duh you held people to ransom.
You know what this is all very on brand for Tado.
"Tado is working as intended" - when you can see with your own eyes by virtue of living in your house that it is not.
"Tado prevents your heating system from switching on and off too often" - when it does literally the opposite.
"this is still a test and those affected continue to retain access to their app free of charge." - when people can't access their heating without as far as they can possibly tell - paying.
Like ok keep gaslighting I guess.
Nah Tado is cooked. This is so bad. And what sucks is that this isn't easy to swap out, like you know I drilled it into the wall and filled and painted already now I have to do it all again for something else because nobody can think things through or test things properly at Tado? Fantastic. Great. Well done?

@FreshFromTheGrave I couldn’t have summed it up any better! A ghoul of a company it seems.
I feel bad for the admin Emcee, you can tell they agree, but are otherwise powerless.
God forbid they actually implement some features that were worth paying for.
I have to laugh at some of your comments. You’re right, the boiler cycling on and off is ridiculous. It’s also impossible to know when it’s actually calling for heat. The flames, are pointless and offer no insight to what’s going on. It lags, it overshoots, undershoots etc.
As for this experiment. You can’t get much more twisted than to ransom people into subscribing during winter, then say “surprise, this was all just a sick joke”. Horrifyingly absurd. I hope heads roll for this.
Well at least people have a year to plan and ditch.3 -
The fact people are now having this forced on them seems like it's happening.
I will discusage anybody I know considering buying Tado.
Without local control and implementing it within days it's basically holding people to ransom. I regrett buying a cloud managed device and will be a learning curve.
I will start a return on my most recent TRVs

"In the absence of clarification, I’ve reported it as such to Apple. You mess with my ability to heat my home in winter, you best know that I’m going to respond in kind."
Creating a fake subscription screen that emulates the apple one is almost certainly likely to be outside the app store rules!5 -
Folks pls dont report to apple as they may take down the App !! Small case court maybe better option-2
-
This is very worrying! I only just spent fortunate on putting TRV's and thermostats all around the house I do not want to pay for a subscription. what are my legal rights to return everything and get a refund?
The problem is Tado gear will become worthless overnight everyone will dump used Tado hardware bring the price down I would prefer to return for full refund.
