Heating issue : VITODENS 050-W, BPJD-24 / EPH control

I’m unable to switch off the heating using the wireless sensor / app

i Installed a wireless thermostat kit. The boiler is VITODENS 050-W, BPJD-24 and the previous wireless receiver was EPH.

This was what the original wire config it doesn’t look like opentherm was wired when the original receiver was and from my understanding, the opentherm bit isn’t compatible with the receiver so I’ve isolated them.

This is what I have installed following the instructions for RF1A as suggested by Tado support.

As you can see it’s powered on but it just doesn’t get very warm, I can manually change temperature on the boiler but that’s not the point!

Looks like the OT wires were controlling the boiler. What have you done with them?

  • I put them into an isolation clip

the OT wires were very small ( you can’t see in the previous picture) but should be able to make it out here, they were wired into that little black isolated unit. I only had 2 large blue and brown that were wired in to the points.

Yes, I can see them in the earlier photo.

What are you calling an isolation clip? Did you put them in the Wago connector?

  • yes! I didn’t know what they were called, assumed it did the same job as the little black thing!

Best not to stick wires into mystery bits. You will have connected them to each other. Boiler would usually switch on in that state.

The little black thing is the OpenTherm (OT) connections. It neither connects them to each other or isolates them. They go to the boiler.

Assuming you are trying to get rid of OT, then connect the wires as switched live aka relay control. Seems an odd way to go and the Tado you have doesn’t seem to support OT.

  • I wasn’t trying to get rid of it, I just don’t know what to do with it. Should I rewrire the black box. How can I get Tado working without interferring with the previous setup, I don’t want to create problems.

Put the old unit back. Exchange the Tado for one that supports OT. Then fit it correctly.

  • okay so hopefully this shows what I’ve done

  • thanks very much @Montage I’ve just reinstalled the old receiver and gone back to OVO who supplied it, fingers crossed!

That’s good. Will be better off with something suitable.
