Replacing Centaurplus C27

Hello, is anyone able to give me a hint on how to properly connect the Tado V3+ wireless ?

I live in UK.

This is to replace the old Centaurplus C27 Series 2 programmer and wired thermostat. I have a Warmflow oil boiler and an upstairs hot water tank.

I attach a photo of the connection of the old programmer and a description of the cables.

The wires going to the boiler are marked in the square.

Red on Square is connected with L

Blue in square connected with N

The wires going to the thermostat (L and N) are connected to the yellow and black in the square.

In the programmer itself in N two wires (blue from the boiler cable with N wire), in L red from the boiler cable with Live wire. 1 and 2 (CH NC and HW NC) empty. 3 CH ON and 4 HW ON.

Do I understand correctly that I should connect the N in the Tado the blue one from the boiler cable and the black N coming out of the wall, the L Live cable plus the red one from the boiler cable, CH NC and HW NC empty, and CH NO, HW NO as in the old programmer?

Are the missing NC cables not a problem and will it work like the old programmer?

What about the wires going from the thermostat to the boiler wire?

You seem to understand most of it, so I’ll deal with what I think are your questions. It’s fairly normal for NC not to be needed. NO carries the demand for heat, NC just says it’s satisfied.

Thermostat, you just want to join the two wires that signal a call for heat. You can do this at the stat for ease. Only follow this if you understand it.

  • Thank you very much for your help, there are only two wires going to the thermostat, black and red, they connect behind the programmer to the wires that go to the oil boiler - black and yellow marked in the square in the photo. Have I understood correctly that I am to join them? Won't this cause continuous heating? I could then disconnect the wires going from the thermostat (black and red) and just connect the wago yellow to the black at the programmer?

Generally the programmer says it’s heating time and then sends the power off to the stat. Warm enough, no heat, cooler you the power back up the other wire and off to fire the boiler.

With the Tado, the wireless stat, in conjunction with the box that replaces the programmer, fires the boiler. Stat calls for heat, other box sends the live to fire the boiler.

You can bridge the stat or take it out of the loop. Hope that helps.
