New installation-V3+ Hearing only works when the hot water is on

Hi,

My previous setup worked well. It’s a boiler with a cylinder and water tank.
I purchased the V3+ Wireless Smart Thermostat with starter kit and programmer with hot water.

I followed the instructions and all is set up with one big issue. The heating only turns on when the hot water in the app is turned on.

Any tips how to solve it?

I tried to remove and reinstall, removed the batteries from the previous thermostat. What else?

How did wire 3 change from blue to brown?

@NickUK Looks like a wiring/labelling error. The old controller/thermostat has brown on 4 and blue on 3. The new receiver has brown labelled as 3? Looks like the CH and HW wires for NO are swapped? Power everything down, swap the blue and brown wires that are on NO. No need to reboot.

@NickUK Hello, following on from @Montage, the wireless receiver for the Honeywell DT92E thermostat should be a Honeywell BDR91 relay box, similar in size and colour to the thermostat, with a led (red/green/unlit) and/or small button on the box lid. The receiver will probably be located somewhere near the wiring centre for the boiler/heating. Turn off the power, open the BDR91 box, it should be a clip-on cover. Undo the two wires on A and B connectors and join them with a wago connector from the starter kit. Leave the other two wires alone, they will be Live and Neutral that power the relay box. Tidy the joined cables and refit the cover. Now, the Honeywell thermostat should have no effect on the heating.

    Edit: typo.

Edit: P.S. The wiring on the Tado wireless receiver, with the purple links, looks OK.

    Sounds like a wiring error.

  • Thanks Montage.
Do you think that it’s related to the previous wireless thermostat? Honeywell DT92E

When I remove its batteries, the heating doesn’t work.

That just reinforces my suggestion that there are wiring errors. I can’t gives any clues with understanding what has been done.

Do you have photos of what it looked like before you started?

  • Thanks!
I added a picture of the wiring before (Center Plug), the instructions from Tado, and how it looks now.

In the instructions there are two more wires, but they were optional if I understood correctly and I don’t have these with the previous settings
  • Good question! Should I switch 3 & 4?
  • And if so, what’s the next step? To reboot everything?

You just need to put the wires in the correct place. You’ll have to forgive me not guessing.

@NickUK I have the same setup. When I installed my system a couple of years ago I had the same issue and contacted support who changed the configuration remotely. It's to dowith the gravity fed config which was enabled, when it shouldn't have been.

  • Thanks all.
I switched the cables. Now it works but only when the old thermostat is on. When I take it batteries out, the heating won’t work. Any tips?
  • I’ve done a factory reset, removed and reinstalled all devices. No impact.

It’s still a wiring problem. Sounds like you haven’t dealt with the wires to the thermostat, just the controller.

@NickUK That’s a step forward. As @Montage posted, your description for the thermostat setting is as expected. Two wires in the room thermostat should be connected, using a wago connector from the starter kit. Take care as there may be three wires: Live, neutral, and switched live. Any unused wire (eg neutral) should be safely terminated as well.
What is the make/model of the room thermostat? Posting a picture of the room stat and wiring will help.

  • Thanks @wateroakley and @Montage

Here is a picture of the thermostat- Honeywell
    DT92E it’s wireless.

Here is a picture of the current wiring

I used the two connectors from the starter kit (purple wires(.

Find the thermostat box that contains the wires and deal with those.

  • Oh wow, that’s an incredible description!

I found a picture of the receiver online, and we turned it into a family treasure hunt to find it around the house. Just like in all good stories, our little girl was the one who discovered it—hiding in the service room behind the cylinder.

The next step is to disconnect it on Wednesday. I’ll update you then.

    Thank you so much!
  • I think it’s all done!!!
Thank you @wateroakley and @Montage for your amazing support!
Do you have a link where I can buy you coffee to express my gratitude?

@NickUK PS. Contributions to the Tado community coffee fund can be made to your favourite local charity. 😉

  • @wateroakley great idea!
I planted 5 trees with the National Trust. Hopefully we all get to enjoy it. Thank you!
