Dual zone standard oil boiler

Hi
I had a wireless control for my heating packed in. It had 2 wireless thermostats and a comon controller switching 2 zone zalves, 1 for upstairs and one for downstairs. The hot water was controlled by a normal timeclock. I have installed a starter kit which is controlling downstairs and the heating but what do I require to add to control the upstairs zone valve. Sorry if this has been covered before but I couldn't see anything for 2 zone wireless control.
Thank you

  • Normally in a two zone CH system, there are two thermostats, which are directly wired to their respective zone valves. A wireless thermostat would have its receiver serve as the wired switching point for its valve, but the point which issues the command would be the wireless, portable thermostat to which it is mated.

When you say you have a starter kit, would you list whats in it? Does it have a wireless controller talking directly to the boiler, with a wired thermostat replacing the original downstairs thermostat?

Assuming thats the case, need to understand whether the specific location of the old upstairs wireless receiver is appropriate, ie if it was simply replaced with a wired thermostat, would it be sensing the wrong location?

    1. If not, simply replace it with a Smart wired thermostat, configure it and all should work
    2. If it is in the wrong location, you have two options:
    • first install a smart wired thermostat in that position
    • then install a wireless thermal sensor or TRV closer to where you want temperature properly registered, and then configure the app so that the wired thermostat is told to obtain its cues from the wireless sensor.
    • in short, the additional wireless sensor upstairs would be set up as the zone controller for the wired thermostat. This would result in the wired thermostat relaying the wired instructions to the zone valve, but getting those instructions from the wireless sensor.

Is this unclear? @davidlyall - want to chip in?
