Tado X Radiator Valve Serials & Hardware differences?

I purchased one radiator thermostat to test prior to upgrading from v3 (which was an upgrade from V1) hoping to evaluate first.

Not so straightforward and couldn’t get it to show in Apple Home using Apple TV as a hub. I I finally got it running in tandem with my V3 kit to allow a comparison - by which time my discounted upgrade offer had expired - ridiculous!

The problems with my first valve made me nervous, so I purchased a single further valve and that install was more straightforward. Both valves purchased within a week from the same retailer.

However, now I can see both in Apple Home and the Tado app the serial numbers are very far apart. Of bigger concern is the earlier valve does not display the ‘Matter device linking’ option under Tado settings, despite both now showing the same firmware number (v 243.1)

First serial VA426045****
Second serial VA065342****

So have I got burnt already with out of date hardware……..now doubly unhappy.

Any ideas, the device linking option was mentioned in the Tado FAQ ‘s but of course it wasn’t visible to me for the first install.

  • update 7/12/24 - I think the ‘linking’ differences were due to adding one device with the Tado app and the other via Apple Home. Tado support did re-send my upgrade code which enabled me to purchase the Receiver-X kit and a third TRV at the discount and once installed I can confirm it has retained my auto-assist as promised.

I have to say after running Tado-X for a few days I am entirely happy with it, I’ve retained some of the V3 TRV devices on radiators that I just want to run with a night-time set-back temperature (where I don’t want those rooms calling for heat). On that basis X & V3 devices are operating fine in tandem, V3 devices are ‘set and forget’ on my computer, X devices controlled by my iPhone.

The hardware improvements with Tado-X are significant for me; no more fiddly screws for battery changes, quite TRV’s, manual button override on the programmer to boost heating & hot water for 1 hour, and the speed of the app response seems much snappier with X devices.
