Tado X Programmer Looses Internet Connection

  • On 07th Jan 2025 I fixed my Wireless X Receiver to the closets (and strongest) Wi-Fi mesh node. Not that its been that long but so far no issues. We will see. I will feel happier once the firmware update has arrived 😁

  • I'll try that. Didl you have to restart the receiver after that or did it just go back to normal steady lights without a restart?

I had to restart the Wireless X Receiver. I tested switching it between nodes and it lost signal and required a restart every time even though nothing else changed and the signal strength was excellent from every node.

I have an Asus Wi-Fi 6 mesh system.

  • I don't think I have an option to choose the access point, but the receiver was connected to the router and I can make it stay there. Now have three solid lights. Fingers crossed. Thanks.

    Hey there..
Does any of you use any kind of special DNS settings (like adguard or nextdns)? You might have to clear a few Tado domains in your DNS settings to get through the the Tado servers then. Somehow they have been marked as unsafe/spying by som add blocking filters and you can't get through to them unless you whitelist everything *.Tado.com
  • Would need to check. My Internet provider filters some things, not under my control
  • Didn't last, reverted to error condition overnight.

  • I have first light solid, second off, third flashing. In the tado app says connected. I am able to change the temperature remotely (confirmed by seeing the change in the thermostat when applying via tado app away from home on other network).

The documentation says that to interpret the lights as: 1st LED solid - connected to wifi network, 2nd LED off - not strong connection, 3rd LED flashing - lost internet connection.

If this is true then how am i able to change the temp remotely?

Is this a bug? Thanks for any help in advance!

  • It is a bug and TADO are working on a fix, the first firmware update didn't solve the issue and a new firmware was promised but this hasn't been released yet.
  • @Jamiejackson16 Thanks for letting me know. I only installed it yesterday so now I know I won't try to fix it!

  • Oh yeah, don't try to fix it, it's working as it should it's only the LED lights which TADO needs to sort
  • After a week of working my Tado Wireless X Receiver LED lights went to 1 on, 2 off and 3 flashing. I reset (again) and working since. Fixing to just one mesh node did not solve. I guess we are all waiting for the new firmware, lets hope they have identified the problem. You cant fix unless you understand the issue 😁

  • I

    That's great news, thanks Emcee

  • That sounds great, thank you. Any idea what the revision will be numbered?

  • Got a surprise this morning, hot water temperature control is back (Opentherm), as promised. I'm hoping early start will follow soon.

  • I can confirm firmware has been updated to 249.1 and the LED lights are working fine.
  • Still on 246.2, no way to force or trick an update on these things?

  • I'm sure yours will be updated in due course.
  • Here in the UK still on 246.2
  • I'm based in the UK and had the firmware update yesterday! Maybe restarting the device will help push it through?
  • I have done a reset, no update yet

  • I also have this issue. Twice in two weeks. And a possibly related issue where it claims the WiFi is good, but doesn't turn the boiler on when the radiators need it to. This is all looking as shaky as the V3+ I just replaced and I'm tempted to return it all for a refund.

  • Nothing for me yet. I guess they are doing a staggered roll-out. Makes sense to make sure it's not introducing any new issues.

  • Hi JasonD - with the X type rad valves have you noticed they open in three stages. You can tell which level its at by how many wavey heating lines are shown on the valve display and in the app. It caught me out as the number 1 flow is really slight 🤨. I opened up the balancing valve end of my rads as they were no longer really required, as I have the X valves on all my rads now (the pressure by-pass is taken care of because I got a LLH installed (Low Loss Header)). If you were turning on a rad demand by going up just 1 or 2 C it might not had that much impact and there might have been sufficient hot water in the system without the immediate need for the boiler to light, this is what I have found. Try wacking it up to say 30C and then check that everything fires up as expected.

@Weatherman That's interesing, I thought the flow temperature was adjusted depending on how much heating was required. If I look at "Care and Protect", heating activity I do see the three bars but beside thes is a percentage figure and this can vary from 1% to 100% and likely in increments of 1%. Do you think the valves are being opened to three different positions in addition to the flow temperature being regulated. When a very low percentage is indicated the radiator is barely warm. At highter setting the rads can be around 30 degrees all the way up to over 50 when demand is very high.

At the moment I have set temperature 22, ambient temperature 21.9, heating activity for that room one bar and 12%. A few seonds later it rose to 13%. The radiator is currently stone cold.

  • @tulloch Do you have a boiler that can modulate? I don't my boiler is either on or off. Guess I dont benefit from that 1 to 100% part.

Care & Protect just shows me that I have a boiler, nothing else.

  • Yes, I do. Opentherm interface. It's showing 20% now, still 21.9 and the rad is at 27 degrees.

  • Checked this morning and still on version 246.2

  • Mines reading 249.1 now, in Ireland. So far solid LEDs 💪
