Tado X with Combi Boiler mix traditional tVRs and Smart TVRs

I am looking for some advice, I have bought the Tado X wireless starter kit along with two smart TVRs. My plan is to have the two tado tvrs in the kids bedrooms controlling their radiators whilst the radiators in the rest of the house is linked to the tado receiver thermostat without smart TVRs, see below a diagram showing the arrangment:

My plan is that the two smart TVRs will be able to heat the kids bedrooms at night (their bedrooms are currently freezing at night) whilst the heating in the rest of the house is off. Will this set up work? At the moment we can't afford to fit the smart TVRs to all of the radiators in the house.

Thanks

  • Hey,

This set-up will work, just few points worth noting:

    • Once you have set-up the system, those two TRVs and the wireless receiver will be able to call for heat when needed. This means that either of them can trigger the boiler to work.
    • At night, when either bedroom calls for heat, the boiler will come on to heat the house. If you have regular TRVs installed elsewhere then it means that water may be circulating through them as well (depending on what their setting/room temperature is).
    • To make sure that those two bedroom TRVs call boiler for heat check it in app settings once installed. Go to 'Settings' → click on the name of the room where the TRV is installed and under 'Heating Zone' ensure that wireless receiver is selected there.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hey man,

Thanks for the response, it is kind of what I thought would happen, without all radiators having the smart TVRs then all the other rads will heat up if one room calls the boiler to be heated up.

    Thanks
