Tado° V3 vs. X series compatibility concerns
Hi everyone,
I’ve been using the Tado° V3 range (thermostat and smart radiator valves) throughout my house for about 2 years. Recently, one device broke, and when I ordered a replacement, I discovered there's a new X series, which isn’t compatible with my V3 setup.
Does this mean that once the V3 devices are discontinued, I’d have to replace my entire system with the X series if any V3 device fails?
If so, would it be wise to purchase a few extra V3 devices now? What are your thoughts or experiences regarding this situation?
Thanks in advance!

The Tado X series is able to operate with simple switched relays, or Opentherm, both are industry standards. As I understand it, it is more able to integrate with smart home control devices- but am not clear about whether things have been ironed out on that.
The present V3 series can more efficiently control boilers which have digital controls - and a lot of boiler proprietary control protocols. It was well thought out. The X series handles on-off switching and Opentherm, which is an aspiring industry standard.
Regarding the date when Tado elect to shut off the V3 series- I just dont know. It is a valid question and nobody here has any advanced intelligence on that.
The company took on some serious decisions in electing to not ensure it continued to cover the wide range of proprietary protocols on the market, reducing X to handling Opentherm. There hasnt been a significant presentation given to us spelling out Tado's market intentions. However yes, only for ease of maintenance at a large charity, I have two spare smart TRV heads, one spare wireless receiver, and one spare wired thermostat in the cupboard.
It is a good question mate.
