The end of IOS 15 Support
Message from tado°:
Hello all,
The end of support of older iOS versions, as described below, was made with considerations linked to Matter/Thread protocols linked with tado° X
To begin, iOS 16.4 is required by Apple for some significant improvements to Matter. (16.1 is the minimum requirement for Matter). Moreover, 16.4 is supported by iPhone 8 and up, meaning tado° can and will continue to support phones as old a 8 years old.
iOS 16.4 is needed to update the minimum requirement of iOS because of API changes & security changes made by the OS. People on older phones should also consider updating due to possible security issues that will pop up in the near future. (Not tado° related, but any app they use, and even their browser, might become unsafe to use)
Of course, users who cannot access the tado° app at the moment can use the tado° web app to make changes to their heating at any time.
Thank you for your understanding.

Hi,
can you inform me why Tado has taken the decision to stop support for IOS 15?
Apple will be supporting it for many years providing security updates to keep things safe.
This is going to cost me a years gas costs to maintain the full features of Tado!

@Tadouser25 Hello. Sorry, I've just found the same issue too. You'll need a mobile device that support iOS 16.4 or Android 9*. An Apple iPhone 8, X or newer; or an iPad mini 5th generation. Tado works from a browser on our PC: Firefox 135, or DuckDuckGo 0.99.5.

Good reply.
Where was the warning of impending rejection? Not to mention the comprehensive error message within the app when it's rejected by your API.
So I have to throw away a perfectly good phone and buy another just to run the Tado app?
We are using Tado to save money and conserve our environment.... looking expensive now for both..... new phone £500 plus landfill.
Tado,,,, what's your reasoning for not supporting IOS 15 - Apple are still supporting it for many years yet?2 -
@Hammermarks Hello. Apple have some great products, but can be one of the most unhelpful vendors with their murky OS release and support policies. Unfortunately, I suspect that we are caught in the security conundrum for application vendors supporting their products on the fully supported OS versions, which are typically N-1 OS releases. For the home automation apps we use a cheap, fully supported, iPad 9th version.

Hello all,
I have been informed that the change was made to Help Center article in November 2024. However, I was unaware of this change—as were many of my colleagues. I suppose since only about 3% of our customers used old iOS 15, it was not deemed important enough for widespread announcement. I will pin this thread so that it is more visible.3 -
I've got the same issue. I have an iPhone 7, limited to IOS 15.8.3, and since a few days, my Tado app is stuck at the loading screen. Even when I try to use the web app, by simply going to app.tado.com in Safari, the screen keeps loading after I have provided my credentials. I installed Chrome, just to make sure it's not a Safari issue, but I get the same result. It shows the loading animation, but the page itself has stopped loading immediately. And that is just odd. I don't think it has anything to do with the app itself (both native and web), but rather with the authentication mechanism that's being used.
I know that the provided article by wateroakley says that Tado works on IOS 16 and above, but that article was updated 3 months ago, and it's only been very recently that it stopped working on IOS 15.
That, in combination with no warning or whatsoever, makes me think that it got unintentionally broken, rather than phased out. So I've still got hope that they will fix this, as long as enough people let Tado know of this problem.
And I get it, my phone is not the newest, but you had a perfectly working app only a few days ago. What changed?

@Zeep Sorry to hear you have the same problem with an iPhone 7 locked to iOS 15.8.3. We have a couple of newer iPads that bridged the problem yesterday. Fyi, if the automated geo-fencing is important for you, we've been out today and our iPhone 7 is still updating Tado home/away.

Thanks for the comments and replies… but I think this move is intentional due to Apple being over stringent with older versions of IOS…. The Ebay app has gone too for the same reasons.
I personally has a Android device which is supported, but this now leaves me with another issue….. The IOS 15 phone account, which I have rescinded permissions too and has gone from my account, is stuck at home so geofencing is not working for us.
Can someone look into this issue for me?

@Hammermarks Probably best to contact Tado support from the chatbot on the main web pages. I've copied @Emcee too.
If you have the Android device with you, can you set the App manually for home/away until Tado support get onto the case?

Same here, iPhone 7 and it just stopped working. Can’t load the app and web app just gone tits up. No warning. I do not chase the newest or newer devices because it is too expensive and very wasteful. Come on Tado, get your act together.1

@Walney29_ Sorry to hear you have found support for the iPhone 7, locked to iOS 15.8.3, has been discontinued. From experience in a previous life, this all is down to the OS support policies of big IT vendors - pick any of the names.
The web browser on a PC works and our iPhone 7 are tracked for Tado geo-fencing.
Fyi, John Lewis have ££ offers on products that will run Apple iOS and iPadOS version 18.

Why is it not possible to login in to the Tado app with iOS 16.1.1. Extremely frustrating.0
-
Apple supported ios devices are not supported by Tado. This is odd!!!1

I have been chasing this on another thread regarding iPhone 7 running iOS 15…… and I think you have been caught by the same problem. I seem to remember seeing something about Tado only working on iOS 16.4 and above.0

Hi Walney29,
I got the same problem yesterday 15th Feb. Im using an iPhone 7 and another iPhone 4 both have stopped being able to open the app. We're not intending to purchase new phones at this time. Please do you know what the answer is, so that we can use Taco again?

Same here, we have two iPhone and they stopped loading the Taco app yesterday 15th.
So basically we can no longer control our system, Taco's not looking as good to us as it was!
Does anyone from the company read these threads and are they likely to help?

@WayneS Hello. Sorry to hear your iPhones have stopped loading the Tado app. You'll need a mobile device that supports iOS 16.4 or Android 9. That's an Apple iPhone 8, X or newer. Tado works from a browser on our PC, Firefox or DuckDuckGo.
We have been conversing with the site admin @Emcee. I don't expect any change.

@Darryn hello. you will need to upgrade to iOS 16.4. iPhone 8 X or newer.

@Mhussah hello. Tado users will need to upgrade to iOS 16.4. iPhone 8 X or newer.

Hello all,
I've added further context to the post above. Repeating it here for those who missed it:

Well here’s a thing. I have an email from Tado which states that they are aware of the problems caused by this decision and are working on resolving them.
Right hand/left hand eh?0 -
Here you go…
Hello,
Thank you for your message.
The programmers are aware of the problem and are working to fix it.
I have referred your case to the relevant team for further study by colleagues. This process may take some time. If you are using our instant messaging service, you can close it. We will contact you by email as soon as we hear back.
If you are unable to use the WebApp in the meantime to control your heating, It is also possible to manually adjust the heating: Can I adjust the heating or air conditioning manually on my devices? How long will this manual changeover remain active?
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Kind regards,

Hello,
This is all rather perplexing. Many important apps, for example, gmail, WhatsApp, bbc, banking, travel, work well with iOS 15.8, so why not Tado? If the decision has been taken by Tado to use iOS features that are unavailable in earlier iOS versions, why not leave the essential functionality of previous apps for those of us who use them? We just want to be able to turn our heating on and off, alter schedules, and do a bit of geofencing! Please reinstate what is generally an excellent bit of engineering.1 -
Another shot in the foot for tado it seems.
In a time where the cost of living is a real problem for many, and for a company that's supposed to be about saving money, tado are now insisting many who can ill-afford it, to go buy a new phone just to be able to turn on their heating?
Wow!
As others have mentioned here, it worked before, why can't it continue to work? Telling people their 8 year old device is no longer compatible is harsh, really harsh.
Another sad day in the tado world.

I think we all realise that the required minimum iOS is 16.4 but what all of we iPhone 7 and older users don’t get is why it has changed and why it can’t be reinstated. Just trotting out the same information over and over isn’t addressing the problem.0

Does anyone from the actual company look at these comments?0
-
Are these threads ever read by Tado employees?0
-
I contacted Tado via their Press email and raised this issue. That has had a response stating the programmers are aware of the issues and are working to resolve them. See what happens because I don’t take kindly to being told to suck it up.0

Hello Emcee
I fully understand the explanation proffered by Tado, but I’m still perplexed by the need for it and the inevitable disregard for it’s customers.
In common with many people I use apps which, by nature of their use, banks etc. are supported a long way back from iOS 16.4. Therefore I find it odd that an app which is deigned for control if something as mundane as heating requires these higher levels.
I’ll be back direct to Tado if I see no movement in the next few days.1
