Official Announcement: Flow Temperature Optimization now available for V3+ and tado° X users

Hello community,

We are pleased to announce the release of a new Flow Temperature Optimization feature for tado° customers with V3+ and X devices directly connected to a boiler or heat source.

Flow Temperature Optimization at a glance

With Flow Temperature Optimization, you can avoid overheating your central boiler or other heat source. This is done by setting a maximum flow temperature that ensures your flow temperature is high enough to heat your home, but not so hot as to overwork your boiler or heat source unecessarily.

A typical maximum flow temperature for a boiler is about 50°C - 60°C. Homes with underfloor heating may only require 35°C - 45°C for optimal efficiency. If you have already set a maximum flow temperature directly on your heat source, tado° will never exceed that maximum. Even if you set a higher maximum flow temperature in the app, tado° will not override the maximum that you set manually.

OpenTherm required

You can use Flow Temperature Optimization if:

  • Your heat source supports and uses OpenTherm
  • Your heat source is connected to tado° via a Wireless Receiver or at least one Wired Smart Thermostat

The feature can be controlled via the tado° app by going to Settings > Flow Temperature Optimization

Automated Optimization

With Auto-Assist, users can access an advanced setting within Flow Temperature Optimization called Automated optimization, which adjusts your maximum flow temperature based on the current weather conditions in your area.

Automated optimization won’t affect the room temperature you set in your home, yet the energy savings can be significant.

To find out more about Flow Temperature Optimization, you can access our dedicated articles in the tado° X Help Center and the V3+ Help Center.

Brilliant, nice to have spotted this earlier. Feels like it could be on by default. I also feel that being able to enable a Tile to show the flow temperature on the home screen for this feature would be really nice to have..
